Artist bio

Mary-Jane Morris is both an artist and environmental scientist.   She is passionate about nature and experiences from her active career in the environmental field are a source of inspiration for her art.  In 1996, she decided to pursue her long-standing interest in art and began regular painting lessons.  Having moved from Cape Town in 2014, Mary-Jane now lives in a rural area in the Western Cape.  Her studio overlooks a small dam where she can observe and engage with the sights and sounds of nature.

Over the years she has completed local and international short courses, intensives and workshops.  Among others, she attended the Summer School painting course at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and the six-month Porthmeor Programme with the St Ives School of Painting.  She continues to study and is currently undertaking the certificate programme offered by Professor Elfriede Dreyer at the Contemporary Art Practice Institute.
